And welcome back, readers!
With August quickly wrapping up, we begin the inevitable transitions. Shorts are becoming pants. Pastels become warmer hues. Fruity cocktails will shortly be hot buttered rum. We welcome these Fall associations right alongside the return of our beloved Duke students, and our streets blur with royal blue!
There have been some delicious changes happening in Durham, of course. We have three new restaurants that are definitely worth the hype, merit, praise, dollar, and tastebuds all within walking distance of The King’s Daughters Inn. Luckily for our guests, and the student population rolling back in, these options are close enough to walk to! An enormous bonus of course- as a city rises, its parking falls!
First and foremost, as you may have heard, JuJu is out of this world. Tapas style menu with an Asian flavor and flare? Yes, please. You may think you’ve had a dumpling before, but have you tried stuffing that dumpling with pork belly or wild boar? Our GM, Denel, recently tried the whole fried bronzino for dinner the other night. What is bronzino, you ask? An entire fried fish, beautifully presented, with light accouterments to balance on the side. JuJu really captures Durham incredibly. They boast incredible food, fair pricing, the best service/atmosphere, with a casual tone. (Umm, The King’s Daughter’s Inn much?) To close, a note, they keep sangria on tap. They know how to combine the best of two words!
Another world on deck for us newly on 9th St., EpaChamo Venezuelan Bar & Grill. They could guarantee that you’ve never had meat so tender and juicy. Have you experienced the thrill of arepas yet? Words do not do these happy fried flavor bombs justice. (However, you can go gluten free and order any of their arepas grilled)! Low key, relaxed, tasty, and cheap- EpaChamo has the official KDI vouch of seriously-delicious approval. There must be a reason arepa-s is always seen pluralized. I have no idea how anyone can settle on just one!
Last, but not least, Burger Bach. This incredible choice is brought to you by New Zealand, where they also fly in all their meat from. This is a burger joint that means serious eating business, which is of course barking right up Durham’s tree. We’ve tried them all- ground beef, lamb, chicken. Steamed seafood. Beer, beer, beer, beer. Imagine everything you want in a burger joint, and get a little crazy. Burger Bach has got your back. 16 sauce choices? Cilantro and honey ground lamb? Heaps of fries? Awesome indoor or outdoor seating, with personable yet casual waitstaff? All yes!
Three cheers to three incredible dining experiences coming hot and fresh off of 9th st. Our downtown is in transition. Grab a fantastic bite to eat, come say hi to us at KDI, and let’s welcome in the Fall transition!
